Anti-Climatic Enlightenment

“A people that were to honor falsehood, defamation, fraud, and murder would be unable, indeed, to subsist for very long.” – Albert Einstein (11-Ajpu)

This new solar year (2018) began last Monday (8-Noj). Out of the many nations celebrating every January 1st, the Russians have a tradition of giving each year a branded ‘mascot’, which is the year’s animal according to the Chinese 12-year calendar. Most of 2017 was the year of the Fire (red) Rooster.

This year, it’s the Earth (brown) dog.

Although the Chinese year of the dog is yet to begin (16 February, 2-Akbal), many the Russians who celebrated last Sunday night wore and sported the dog mascot.

According to Wikipedia, the dog is part of the 3rd Trine (out of 4, making up 12), along with the horse and the tiger:

“These three signs are said to seek true love, to pursue humanitarian causes, to be idealistic and independent but tending to be impulsive. The three are said to be productive, enthusiastic, independent, engaging, dynamic, honorable, loyal and protective, but can also be rash, rebellious, quarrelsome, anxious, disagreeable or stubborn.”

This list of traits can easily be compared to those of the nawal known as Oc in Yucatec.

It’s an interesting fact of timekeeping that this particular Gregorian new year began in the middle of the 1-Dog trecena, on 8-Noj (Earth).

2018 – Year of the Earth Dog, begins 16 February 2018 (*Image taken from here)

P.S. 2019 will begin on 9-Ik (Chinese year of the Earth Pig), and 2020 on 10-Kej (Metal Rat). After that, because of 2020 is a leap year, January 1st will take place on another year-lord quadruplet, when 2021 will begin 12-Ben (Metal Ox).

But the number sequence is maintained (8, 9, 10 – leap year, 12, etc.)

“We should live our lives as though Christ were coming this afternoon.” – Jimmy Carter (8-Noj)

Happy new year!

2018 rolls on beginning today, and will feature daily on your calendar for the next 365 days, come rain or shine. The Gregorian calendar is the one concept of time most common to most people on earth. It has been so since only quite recently. Before that, each culture had its own solar calendar, equivalent to the (quite inaccurate) Gregorian. These indigenous technologies have long since been wiped away, save some staunch ones (including the Tzolkin. Each such legacy masterpiece of calculation and culture would weave its own folklore into the meanings of each month. This way, each farmer would follow the solar cycles, and plan his work accordingly.

The agricultural context has long been lost for most people using the solar calendar known as the Gregorian today. Also, this most popular of calendars has a flawed mechanism, based on an irregular sequence of months, each having a different duration. Once every 4 years, February needs an additional day to correct for multi-year drifts. That forced calibration, by the way, doesn’t calibrate the calendar precisely enough, since there is also a multi-year correction that had to be introduced approximately every 75-years.

But then, when superimposing the 7-day work week over this mediocre, notice contraption, chaos finally rears its confused head. Each week day falls on a different numerical day of the month, with no apparent or meaningful pattern.

Kind of reminds me of Microsoft software. It’s crap, but everyone’s used to it.

Although it is exclusively used by Christians to mark their religious holidays, the Gregorian is also the one calendar exclusively used by everyone to celebrate the one true universal holiday:

Happy birthday!

Global heartbeat frequency

The earth (one of Noj’s meanings) breeds people and dogs of all kinds. It has a frequency and resonance that borders cannot contain. When tuned into it, whales are able to navigate great distances from spawning seas to hunting seas. Herons can do the same over the oceans, and so can elephants on land.

It is the resonance which allows for synchronicity and coincidences around your neighborhood and on the other side of the earth. When strangers reverse ill fortune and help comes from nowhere, when least expected.

Make yourself at home.

Culture shock

Here’s Sam Kinison’s (8-Noj) very last TV interview, before he died in a car crash. His host here is TV-man Paul Provenza (13-Qanil).

One thing I’ve learned about Noj-type people (be it male or female) is that when they erupt in anger or any other kind of emotional excitement, it is a sight to see and it gets everyone’s attention. This trait is also shared by Noj’s burner-day companions Iq and Kej. Kinison made a living out of his classic eruptions.

7-Ajmaj: Sacred forgiveness (31 December 2017)

Born 7-Ajmaj: Hilary Swank, Ted Nugent

7-Ajmaj: Wisdom and Sacredness reflect upon themselves in the Trecena of Love

Regarding the 7th and middle day of the trecena, Ken Johnson (10-Imox) has often written that it has to do with endings. This is because of the unique sequence of numbers that takes form when following the appearance of any given sun-sign during the 260-day Tzolkin round. This cyclical, 13-number sequence is:

1, 8, 2, 9, 3, 10, 4, 11, 5, 12, 6, 13, 7

So 7 appears last in the sequence, before beginning again with 1. This special arrangement of numbers can be a possible answer to a math quan “Count to 7 using 13 numbers with equal intervals between them”. You do that by moving away from a decimal system and using a base-13 system.

Regarding the sun-sign Ajmaj (a.k.a. Cib, 16th sign from the crock), Johnson has written many things, all neatly converging on the following diverse and deep keywords I’ve noticed: vice, forgiveness, ancestors, remembrance, karmic cleansing.

So, to gain focus on today’s message from the Mayan sun, one guide stone is 7 as endings and conclusions. The other would be anything and everything you pick out of the list in the previous paragraph.

It’s fitting to have the last day of the tropical/solar year bear the meaning of ‘final karmic cleansing’. It carries the promise of cutting old patterns loose, and avoiding the periodic building up of realities that result from these old, habitual patterns. In unraveling of old karmic ties, and unloading useless habits, Ajmaj carries a meaning close to that of Kat, its destiny sign. But here the emphasis is on the forgiveness that comes along with letting go of the person I used to be.

The next time Ajmaj appears in the calendar, it will be 1-Ajmaj (20 January 2018).

Ian Lungold (12-Ajpu) once said that Cib days are best to sit on a rock.

Worth a shot.
