Preface: The last uinal
3 days ago (11-Imix) the Tzolkin began its 20-day countdown to 4-Ahau (21 December 2012). Many wise men and women have thought and wrote about this date. Their conclusions are as varied as the authors are. The guidance offered so far has been like those big signs over the supermarket aisles. Here’s the dairy, there’s the dry goods. Take what you need, then check out.
Here’s my case study. These past days I’ve been following a video series put together by a guy called Chris Duane, called “The Greatest Truth Never Told.”
Note: the link above leads to the first of 50-odd videos in a playlist, each about 5 minutes long (some shorter, some longer). It’s a condensed mind-job, so be prepared and digest slowly…
Following a long and in-depth study of reality over the last ten years or so, Duane figured that the way the world is going to check out is by killing the US dollar. He claims that this will be the single most important event in human history.
The US dollar has more influence over more people than any other currency in history. When the dollar falls the paradigm shift will be complete, and every soul on earth will need to come to terms with a new reality. A reality with no reality TV or Facebook, a financial system devoid of greed and compound interest, a business sector that knows no corruption, a government that… wait, will there even be one?
Duane uses the Peter Josef Zeitgeist format to deliver a summary of his extensive research, and mentions false flag covert ops, the international banking cartel, and the rise of BRIC and other international players that offer an alternative to the British-American hegemony. Ultimately, when China, India, and other countries stop trading oil using the Petro$ all hell is going to break loose in North America, and then permeate quickly down to the rest of the world.
Well, that’s one way to check out, for sure. It’s much more of a punishment than, say, a global tsunami, or planet X colliding with Earth, or the dreaded pole shifts and galactic alignments. It’s another well-presented subjective viewpoint. It speaks of crime and punishment; a balancing of karma, while displaying little spiritual maturity.
Drawing a line
Soon after Saddam Hussein (11-Muluc) started selling Iraqi oil in exchange for only Euros he was hung. When Muammar Gaddafi (5-Men) started selling Libyan oil in exchange for Gold Dinars exclusively, he was signing his own lynch contract. Lately, Hugo Chavez (6-MULUC, coming up) got off the Petro$ and had to put down an attempted coup, orchestrated by American interest groups.
Iran and Russia are already off the Petro$, which is very evident in everyday journalism these days. Since the West cannot invade and conquer them just yet, these are the countries and the leaders to shun and vilify according to Fox and the BBC. At the same time, RT and Al Jazeera are already morphing into what conspiracy theory followers would like their mainstream media to look like.
So what’s going to happen when China sells everything it produces in Yuen only? And when India does the same in Rupees? I can see how Duane’s argument makes sense.
thoughts on personal conclusions
I’m not elaborating on this case study for no good reason, so please bear with me, even if you haven’t checked out that link yet. “The Greatest Truth Never Told.” is a cultural conspiracy soup which serves as a perfect example of duality in loud, vindictive action.
Here’s a profile of your everyday alternative truth champion of pure duality:
He puts across most of the ideas he borrowed from other researchers clearly, but utterly fails to convey any real hope in his message. His format is very condensed and technical. Numerous bits of material borrowed from other alternative truth YouTube videos are used and then reused. He warns about repeated propaganda soundbites, only to use the same strategy he argues against, repeating his mantra “the death of the dollar”.
His guidelines for identifying psychopathic traits are brilliant. He does place plenty of good emphasis on personal responsibility, but it stems from personal guilt and wrongs that must be corrected. He exposes weaknesses at the root of any organized movement, but denounces cyber-individuality as being anti-social. He trashes Facebook like it’s the Antichrist, and fails to see any promise in today’s teenager Tweeter generation.
Social media is just a tool in the hands of the worthy, right? Here’s a taste of some post-modern preachin’:
He shuns any and all religion by principle and views the Earth as a finite resource (“the solid rock”) upon which the huge rushing wave of debt and death is destined to crash, as a new paradigm emerges.
Oh, yeah. One last thing. The fact that he counted Israel as the first place not to be in when things “go down” really pissed me off… Southern California was 4th on that list, so I might not be alone here. And he hates smokers, too, so it’s personal! 😉
The Monkey has left the building
Now that the 1-chuen trecena is over, all bets are off, as they say. Tomorrow’s circumstances are anybody’s guess, and are mostly a question of where my attention and intention are focused. While under the spell of the Seed (Kan), I’m focusing on abundance for all, naturally.
When confronted by a taunting adversary, Jeff Lebowski (Bridges, 13-Eb) once said:
“Yeah? Well, you know, that’s just like, your opinion, man.”
Much like the doomsday predictions of 2012, the conspiracy theory (or “Feary” as I call it) is an attempt to detail and illustrate the outside world from within the shell of an egg/cocoon. The feary is a suggested crack in the eggshell; it’s an omen foreseeing the shell’s inevitable destruction, and an indication that it’s just about to happen, any day now. On top of that, I have very little to do about it, except maybe prepare somehow.
Although many fearies hold important truths that must be exposed, a feary is basically a story that connects specific dots of history in an attempt to find the final dot of history. When that final dot is connected, a pattern will emerge – vindicating most, if not all of the feaory’s line of reasoning and conclusions.
FROM 1-KAN 10-BEN
1-Kan is not the best time to badmouth social networking, Facebook included. It’s a time to celebrate each and every way of connecting with another person, regardless of the tools I use. Naturally, not using any tool and meeting face to face remains the best choice. But even that has been enhanced by the video call.
The day of manifestation in this process is 10-BEN. This is the day on which a clear line is drawn between what’s real and what’s just an opinion; between feary and reality.
The union that abides between you and me (Kan) is not something that needs to be achieved or put together slowly over time. It has to be acknowledged as a constant and indestructible reality. No level of technology can finally alienate nor divide us.
The ironies of the universal artistic mind (1-chuen) led me out of the cave of the ego and back to real people and real challenges. These are the challenges that I face when I stop talking and begin doing. Manifestation’s promise of abundance begins to unfold today, 1-Kan, and continues for the next 12 days.
1-Kan: Big Time Sensuality
Under the hood
1-Kan is considered to be the most balanced trecena of all, slightly more than 1-Chicchan. The correspondence between sun-sign and stage is relatively high, unlike the previous trecena when you had a basic sign (Ik) on a heavy day (12). It is no wonder, then, that many Maya mark the balancing point of 1-Kan (8-CHUEN) as the day on which a new cycle of the Tzolkin begins.
Counting from 1-Imix, the 1-Kan trecena marks the balancing midpoint of the Tzolkin, and therefore of the fabric of time itself. 8-CHUEN is located 1 day after 7-OC, the midpoint of the trecena . This “off-center” location resonates with the trecena itself, which runs down the 8th uinal. This is again off the center – the 20-day core period of the 7th uinal.
I call 8-CHUEN the Tzolkin’s eternal midpoint. For a discussion of the temporal and eternal midpoints of the Tzolkin, see the previous 1-Kan post.
8-CHUEN is one day which gravitates towards and balances off all future Tzolkin rounds to come. Generally speaking, to harmonize with stage 8 means to stay ahead of the curve. Literally.

1-Kan: Everything needed

If I had just one wish for the future it would materialize in the shape of a seed. A seed is a wish I bury below the surface. A wish is a promise for something better.
Philosophically, Kan is the essence of potential, of unknown and innumerable benefits that are collected to be shared, and then shared to be multiplied. At the same time, Kan is also a powerful grounding force which reminds me that planting a seed is just a beginning. If I don’t tend to my garden regularly its death is probably the best result I’ll get. If I’m not so lucky, it’ll bear fruits of wrath – the wrath of broken promises.
In the preface I discussed the fall of the dollar as the one Event that’s going to sort all us sinners out once and for all. Thankfully, this particular prediction has no due-by date attached to it, but the focus right now is on the December end date. Others hold a strong conviction regarding alien visitation or a magnetic shift of the poles, and look to this date as the proverbial deadline (or is it the flat-line? I forget).
How can it be that the final calamity of judgement lurks just 4 days after 1-Kan – a period of abundance, community and balance – concludes?
How does all this period of potential and promise fit in with the 2012 endgame phenomenon of the looming twenty first of December?
It doesn’t.
Symbology
1-Kan means networking to the max and in every respect. It means integration on the most basic levels of survival and global communion.
Kan (Seed) is the first, and most basic form of abundance in the uinal. Without seed there is no food. Lack of “seed” is represented by one of the horsemen of the apocalypse – Famine (keeping in mind that the meaning of the scary word ‘apocalypse’ is simply “unveiling”).
The specter of famine is ever present on a very basic level of our perception, regardless of how secure I might actually be in that respect. Even in this post/ultra-modern era, and in what’s called the developed world – where I can go to the mega-market store and get everything I need – there’s always some doubt regarding how nutritious the groceries are, and how many toxins are hidden there. This is also a method of experiencing famine/lack of ‘Kan’.

The challenge of this generation is abundance. Choice has been multiplied over and above my physical and mental needs. Yet I want more. I feel I need more. I don’t feel a 100% secure, and my TV tells me I’m probably right.
My daily existence resembles a medical procedure:
I begin my day, waking up, already worried about chores and tasks I didn’t catch up with yesterday. That’s the malady.
I think about how to tackle this day, usually while getting cleaned up and having breakfast. That’s the meeting I have with the doctor, discussing the remedy.
I get to work and administer my favorite substances right to my vein. Usually it begins with coffee. That’s anesthetics.
I do what I do at work. I dive into and then yank myself out of distractions. I’m nice to people. I swallow little pains. I sympathize. This is the procedure.
I log off and get my sore lower spine back home to my family. That’s rehabilitation.
I fall asleep, eventually. That’s the death between maladies.
Symbology
Every MD in almost every hospital around the world wears 2-Chichan on his doctor’s robe. That symbol consists of two snakes coiled around the medicine staff of authority. It’s in the old testament, it’s the DNA in modern genetics. It is an ancient symbol of life, given and taken away.
If and when you find yourself in hospital staring at that symbol, remember that it signifies the doctor’s ability and skill to help you, as well as the well-established skills and knowledge of your own innate doctor (your Body) who’s been healing you since day one.

Well, here we go again! 10-consecutive Portal Days coming right at you.
1-Kan is a very social trecena. It has 9-EB in it, as well as 7-OC, 10-BEN and other socially-related sun-sign/tone combinations. One of the prominent of these is today, 3-CIMI.
Cimi is a rudimentary sun-sign associated with the ancestors. Cimi natives are known for their psychic connection with remote grandfathers and grandmothers. Reflecting back to the seed (1-Kan) and its ancient journey through my agricultural heritage, 3-CIMI is the day I nurture my garden and give due attention to the seeds and young plants.
With my hands and legs, I use the same body movements my forefathers and mothers used to tend their plot of land. I use the same tools, same methods, and consider the same administrative options. I cannot escape these deep connections. I have no reason to.
This used to be called husbandry. Our home planet yearns for it; agriculturally, environmentally and in every other way. All talents and life pursuits are welcome and desperately required. This is where the 3rd stage come into place.
Symbology
Cimi signifies a form of surrender. In the context of the 8th uinal only just began, 3-Cimi is very much like the point in the Roller-Coaster ride when the cars have completed their painstaking climbing up uinals 1-7, and the first cars are already plunging down into oblivion, taking everyone else with them.
If I’m sitting on that ride, “sweet surrender is all that I have to give”, as Sarah McLachlan (11-Imix) sings. Once that is out of the way, and the fear of the unknown, climbing up the ride becomes a distant memory – that’s when the real fun begins.
The roots of Pop and Drag
Very early in my Tzolkin research, when looking up the Beatles’ birthdays, I had a small laugh when I did McCartney. 3-CIMI (death) turned out to be the birthday of the Beatle that was declared dead, reducing the band down to 3 members. He wasn’t the one who eventually turned dead in reality, and that was lucky in a way. Luck is one of the benefits of being dead once in a while, and it is part of the Cimi symbolism.
Here’s the magnificent Hugo Weaving (3-CIMI) in the Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I dedicate this one to my friend Chris Duane, and to the smallest, subtlest truth, told time and time again. It really resonates with the didgeridoo:

4-MANIK: End famine

The discussion moves now to a previous topic (see 1-Chicchan), which is stage 4 as an ending of sorts. Manik is a sun-sign associated with endless pilgrimage and continued perfection of skills. So how does Manik’s ongoing process sit next to the 4th stage of completion?
I began the journey 3 days ago, on 1-Kan, and today I complete my first full cycle around the four cardinal directions to arrive at 4-MANIK. This means that the planted seed or sapling, after it has been properly nurtured, is going to yield a result which will ultimately lead me to conclusions.
After inspecting the plant my conclusions are going to be about the seed’s quality and the quality of my gardening skills. These have evidently led the plant to its current condition.
This is the endless learning process of nurturing good fruit and good spirit.

4-MANIK’s message and energy is the most balanced form of medicine known in the Mayan culture. So, if you’re praying for someone’s health – this is the day for focusing your thoughts, prayers, and intentions.
Manik is the Deer, in other words – the Raam. It is the spirit of the forest, the one that doesn’t hesitate to claim his last stand, in a God-sent bush-fire, for example. The Raam shares symbolical grounds with the Father of Raam, a.k.a. Abraham (in Hebrew).
Raam is also known as the Zodiac sign Aries. It reflects an age in history, dated around 1800 BC till 325 AD. The Age of Aries was replaced by the Age of Pisces, which is the age most scholars agree to be still in effect today. The next (st)age in Light is Aquarius.

All these empower me, my family, and my neighbors. They are the keystones of prosperity.

Today is already the 3rd consecutive Portal Day. What’s called for right now is a precise star (5-LAMAT).
When I’m out in the desert at night, looking for good shelter, all I need is 1 precise star. A single star from the multitude, which I’ll recognize immediately and navigate according to it to the nearest Oasis. It’s just a small star (5th stage star, not yet 6 or 7), but it pinpoints my location and maps the way to more abundance on this southern sunny trecena.

6-MULUC: Perpetual irrigation

I used to work for two managers, in completely separate jobs, who were born on a Muluc day – one is 6-MULUC and the other 7-MULUC. From my experience, having a Muluc-type manager is almost the only way to go. They are the kind of executives that know that feedback, and especially positive feedback costs nothing, so they use it wisely. They also know that every situation and hurdle can be negotiated by dedication and teamwork.
I got along with the 6-MULUC much better than the 7, even though I don’t usually get along with sixes. When I think about the chubby guy mentioned in the preface, Hugo Chavez (6-MULUC) as a boss I can understand the loyalty that most of his people have for him.
According to the Tzolkin, Chavez is the water that nourishes the Venezuelan tree of abundance. All his flock rely on the tree’s fruit to live and thrive. These waters must always be available, to compensate for lack of rain.
The good of the led is Muluc’s first priority. Appreciation for the opportunity to serve is close behind it.
So it’s little wonder old Hugo chose to get off the US titty when it got sour.
Symbology
The river flows on (6-MULUC), in appreciation and thanksgiving (offering). To imagine what this is like you can think about standing on a riverbank. When a strong river flows by you, it seems to be completely still and motionless.
Like the spokes on a wheel rotating in a certain RPM and appearing to be still, resonant with our frequency of vision.
To my understanding, this is the conservative nature of 6-MULUC. It is an essential link between the gathering (Heavens 1 through 5) and the Reflection (7th Heaven), along with being the forerunner to the balanced phase of the process.
Apropos being conservative and taking care of the family, please note that so far in this trecena we’ve already had birthdays of 3 distinguished “family” members: Dutch Schultz, Bugsy Siegel, and Al Capone.
These were the ones that were caught. There are other, legitimate government gangsters who have their birthdays during this period. Can the live ones be found and brought to justice yet?

How it used to be
And now, an interesting bit of serious history. Walter Cronkite (6-MULUC)’s career inspired countless TV people of all nations. His professionalism, as displayed in the video above, is still being studied and mimicked. Here he is announcing the death of LBJ (5-Edznab) on January 22nd, 1973 (12-Ik, 7 days ago).
He’s broadcasting live while talking to the correspondent on the land line. Now there’s some old-school Twitting!
7-OC: Purpose = Love

Today is another riveting walk through the twists and turns of relationships with fellow travelers and gardeners. OC is about the territory each of us marks around his/her personality. With my family I have intimate boundaries, with my neighbors I have social and personal boundaries. All these relationships require husbandry (even if you’re the wife) and what Americans call “maintenance” within their respective boundaries.
When balance is achieved in relationships, prosperity is maintained. When the purpose (7) of the process is Love (OC) prosperity is guaranteed.
The unlikely bridge
One of my earliest memories, sitting in front of the TV with my parents and sister, is watching Anwar Sadat (7-OC) exiting his plane and going down the stairs to greet Menachem Begin (13-Ben). We then continued following the coverage of his speech in the Knesset, and later his signing of the peace treaty with Israel.
To many of us living in Israel it was like living in a dream. To some this meant giving up an amazing piece of desert, and trusting those who should not be trusted.
To Sadat it meant the Nobel peace prize, a distinguished place in human history, and multiple 7.62 rounds to his aorta, intestines and neck.

It was only after I watched this video that I learned about the trick Sadat played on Hafez al-Assad (7-Ben) back in 1973. He talked Assad into starting a coordinated surprise skirmish against Israel – the Yom Kippur war.
When the war began, Assad rushed to reclaim the Golan heights and kept his end of the bargain. Sadat, however, stopped his advance just a few miles into the Sinai peninsula, allowing the reeling IDF to regroup.
That’s all Israel needed to concentrate efforts on the fight with Assad, and then later to win the war, paying a relatively high price for being caught unawares.
That’s all Sadat needed to do for Egypt switch from Migs to F-16’s, and from communism to capitalism. He also got back the Sinai and all its oil, along with many other perks from the West. This, of course, infuriated all the other Arab nations, and back home it pissed off too many loud and violent members of his opposition.
And if you think history counts for little, take a look at what’s happening right now. Sadat’s trick is the difference between Egypt and Syria today. Egypt is one Arab nation that wasn’t invaded this last decade; that is not overtly and militarily. Syria is one.
Bashar al-Assad (13-Eb) is reaping his father’s orchid.

Under the hood
8-Chuen means Harmony which is much more subtle and deep than other western 8’s (Like 8-Men or 8-Cauac), and even more so than all southern 8’s put together (8-Lamat, 8-Ahau, etc.)
Having the new-year in the midst of spring immediately resonates with the Jewish New-Year, which was originally celebrated in Passover (around the spring equinox), back when the Israelites were trekking the Sinai desert.
It must have made some sense 2000 years ago to celebrate the new year during spring. It still makes sense through a particular point of view, but so does celebrating it in autumn (the academic year, the Hebrew calendar) and mid-winter’s day (Christianity).
As discussed above, the absolute midpoint of the trecena is stage 7. But it is not the center of evolution, nor its center of gravity. It is simply the dual divide-point of the current process. The midpoint of Nature and Evolution is “Left of center” in a manner of speech. It is Infinity (8), and the center of the universe – the heart.
